Adam Brown regénye rendkívüli módon szedi össze azokat a gondolatokat, melyek a mai embereket is foglakoztatja, ugyanis ebben az elgondolkodtató könyvben a sorok közt lapuló mondanivaló, sokszor fontosabb, mint maga a történet. Ez az izgalmas, néhol humoros, de romantikus szálat sem nélkülöző kalandregény nem csupán a világ nagy kérdéseiről szól, hanem emberi sorsokról és jellemvonásokról is. A főbb szereplők, a főhős, a bankár, a főhős exneje, barátja, barátnőjének testvére, fantasztikusan adnak vissza olyan karaktereket, melyekkel mi magunk is találkozunk az életben. A könyvben keményen megjelennek a mai világunkat is uraló bankoligarchia gaztettei és manipulációi, a geológiai és időjárás-fegyverek, a HAARP, a totális megfigyelés, a tudatmanipulálás, valamint a fősodrású média agymosásának hatására birkaként viselkedő tömegek. A cél: elvenni a pénzünk feletti rendelkezési jogot, szétzúzni az olyan hagyományos értékeket, mint a szeretet, a család és a becsület, majd a különféle manipulatív eszközökkel elplántálni az emberekben a saját nézeteiket úgy, hogy azokat ők sajátjukként fogadják el. Mindemellett pedig nem marad ki a regényből a szeretet fontossága sem, ami sajnos kezd kihalni belőlünk, mivel a mai emberek többsége számára a pénz mindennél fontosabb. A regény nem bíztat, nem akar senkit semmiről meggyőzni. Csupán szórakoztat, melegséggel, izgalommal, vagy jókedvvel tölt el, és főként elgondolkodtat. S bár könnyen megfeledkezhetünk arról, hogy ez csak egy regény, amiben bármi megtörténhet, annak a kérdésnek az eldöntését, hogy hol a határ a képzelet és a valóság közt, meghagyja az olvasónak. Bár ha a regényben és a valóságban megtörtént események és módszerek közt hasonlóságot vélne felfedezni az olvasó, akkor az nem mindig csak a véletlen műve.
John Bremer egy nagy játékfejlesztő cégnél dolgozik programozóként. Munkája az Underworld nevű valóság-szimulációs játékhoz különféle részkódok készítése. Élethelyzetéből adódó kényszerűségből igent mond a bankárnak, hogy írjon a kódba olyan részeket, amikkel saját számlájukra juttathatnak pénzt. Ám a bankár egyre telhetetlenebb, közben pedig kiderül, hogy aki csak teheti, saját zsebre is dolgozik, szinte mindenki korrupt, a vezetőség pedig érthetetlen módon szemet huny minden felett. John azonban rájön, hogy odafenn sokkal nagyobb disznóság készülődik, a valódi cél nem a játék nyereségessé tétele, hanem a felhasználók totális agymosása a játékon keresztül. Ennek megakadályozása azonban már túlmutat John lehetőségein, ezért komoly veszélybe kerül. A harchoz olyanoktól kap segítséget, akiről nem is gondolta volna, miközben a valós világgal kapcsolatban is egyre furcsább dolgokra derül fény. A történet alakulása során pedig még egy romantikus szál is kibontakozik. S hogy Johnnak végül sikerül-e tenni valamit a világ uralmára törő érinthetetlenek ellen, az kiderül a regényből.

Adam Brown’s novel, The Code of Underworld, has a unique way of bringing together the thoughts that are on people’s minds today. The hidden meaning between the lines in this thought-provoking book is very often more important than the story itself. This exciting, at times humorous adventure novel, not lacking in a romantic plotline either, is not only about the big questions of the world but also about human fates and characteristics. The main characters, the protagonist, the banker, the protagonist’s ex-wife, his friend, his girlfriend’s brother, brilliantly reflect characters that we meet in our lives. The book features the wrongdoings and manipulations of the banking oligarchy ruling our world, and depicts the harsh realities of geological and weather warfare, HAARP, total monitoring, mind manipulation, as well as the masses acting like sheep, brainwashed by mainstream media. The aim is to take away our control over our money, to smash traditional values such as love, family, and honour, and then, by various manipulative means, to plant their own views in people’s minds in a way that they accept those as their own. Besides, the novel also features the importance of love, which, unfortunately, we are beginning to forget about, as for people today money is more important than anything. The novel does not encourage, nor does it want to persuade the reader of anything. It just entertains, fills one with warmth, excitement, or merriness, and, most importantly, makes the reader think. And while one might easily forget that it’s just a novel, in which anything can happen, it leaves it to the reader to decide where the line between imagination and reality is. Nevertheless, should the reader find similarities between the events and methods in the book and those in reality, it may not always be accidental.
John Bremer works for a big video game development company as a programmer. His task is to create different source codes for the simulated reality game Underworld. Out of necessity, he says yes to the banker, who asks him to write parts in the code that will transfer the users’ money to their own account. However, the banker gets more and more greedy, while it turns out that whoever can, works for their own good too. Almost everyone is corrupt and, for some inexplicable reason, the leadership shut their eyes to this all. Yet, John finds out that a much bigger ploy is about to unfold “up there”, and the real aim is not to make the game profitable, but to brainwash users completely through the programme. But preventing this is beyond John’s control, so he gets into serious trouble. In fighting, he gets help where he wouldn’t expect it from, while he also finds out stranger and stranger things about reality. He flees to Asia, where he has to face further complications and more dangerous situations, but at this point of the story, a romantic line starts to evolve as well. Does John manage to do something against the untouchables about to take over the world, and save the world from the terrible future we are headed towards? The answers to these questions are to be found in the book.
